Leant this recipe from my cousin, it is easy to prepare and a tasty tofu recipe. Avoid chillies if prepared for kids. This Spicy saucy egg tofu recipe is a big hit at my house. If preferred, serve fried tofu without sauce.
- Egg tofu – 1 pkt
- Garlic – 2 pods (chopped finely)
- Red chillies – 2 (chopped finely)
- Light soy sauce – 1 tbsp
- Corn flour/corn starch – ¾ tbsp
- Spring onion – for garnishing
- Oil – 1 tbsp
Cut egg tofu into 1 inch thick rounds. Heat a non-stick pan; add oil fry the tofu on medium heat for 2 minutes or until golden brown. Turnover and fry for another 2 minutes or until golden brown.
Once done remove from the pan and arrange them in a serving plate. Keep it aside till the sauce is ready.
Return the same non-stick pan to heat. Add finely chopped garlic and sauté till light brown. Add finely chopped red chillies and sauté for few seconds.
Add light soy sauce, and then mix corn starch with half cup of water and add it to the pan. Stir continuously, once the sauce starts to thick, reduce the heat and cook for 1 more minute and remove from fire.
Pour the sauce over the pan fried tofu pieces. Garnish with spring onions. Serve hot with rice.
