Kayisi Tatlisi | Buttered apricots with Almonds | Turkish Dessert Recipe

This is a simple, elegant dessert. It is a wonderful dish to prepare in winter when fresh apricots are out of season.

Recipe source – “The Turkish CookBook”

  • Dried apricots – 1 pound (about 26 to 28)
  • Sugar – ½ cup
  • Water – 1 cup
  • Butter – 2 tbsp
  • Almonds – ½ cup coarsely chopped

Wash and drain the apricots ad place in a medium size skillet. Sprinkle with the sugar and 1 cup water and bring to a boil.

Reduce heat and simmer, covered for 20 to 30 minutes or until all the cooking liquid has been absorbed.

Remove the cover and stir in butter. Cook for a minute, shaking the skillet carefully from side to side to make sure the butter coats all of the apricots.

Cover the pan again, remove from the heat, and let stand for 5 to 10 minutes. Arrange o a serving platter and sprinkle with nuts.  Serve with 1 cup of whipped cream.
