Damascus Cake | Semolina and Yougurt Cake | Eggless and Butterless Cake

This is easy and a yummy cake. In addition to that there is no egg and no butter.  Preparation time is very less but the result is awesome. If you are bored of flour cakes, try this semolina cake.

  • Semolina/Suji – 2.5 cups
  • Yogurt – 1 cup
  • Sugar – 1 cup
  • Vanilla essence – 1 tsp
  • Baking soda – 1 tsp
  • Salted peanuts – 2 tbsp.
  • For Syrup
  • Sugar – 3 cups
  • Water – 3 cups
  • Lemon juice – 1tbsp
Preheat the oven to 200 C.
Mix semolina, yogurt, vanilla essence and sugar in a bowl.  Add baking soda and stir. Pour the batter into a square baking tin that has been brushed with water. Spread the peanuts on top of the batter.
Bake the cake at 200 C for 35-40 minutes or until the top becomes golden brown.
While baking prepare the syrup, take a pan add water, lemon juice and sugar.  Dissolve the sugar and bring it to boil.
Once the cake becomes golden brown take the cake out and immediately pour the syrup over the cake. Wait until the syrup is completely absorbed by the cake. 
Make pieces and enjoy.
3 cups of sugar for the syrup is too sweet for me, if you wish you can reduce it.

Ahhhh!! Just the right recipe when I was looking for eggless and semolina. Still have plenty of stock of semolina and would happily give a try to your recipe. Beautifully baked and I am so tempted.
