Agar/Agar Agar/China grass is vegetarian gelatine produced from several species of seaweed; Agar is a good source of protein, iodine, iron and fibre. It comes in powder, flakes or bars. Agar has no fat, no carbohydrates, so this is helpful for those who are looking for low calorie desserts.
IngredientsAgar/China grass – 7gm (I used agar bars)
Fresh Orange Juice - 300ml (1 ½ cup)
Lemon – 1
Honey – 1 tbsp
Sugar – ¾ cup
Break up agar bars into pieces. Wash and soak them in 1 cup of water for 30 minutes. Mash them with hands or blend it in a blender and keep aside.
Squeeze out lemon and extract juice. Mix lemon juice and honey with orange juice and keep aside.
Take a saucepan, add 1 cup of water bring it to boil. Once done add mashed china grass and stir. Reduce the heat and cook until agar is dissolved and becomes transparent.
Add sugar and stir, once the sugar is dissolved remove from heat, add orange juice immediately and stir well.
Transfer the agar agar mixture to jelly mould or greased glass bowls immediately and refrigerate until set. Serve cold with fruits or as it is.
You can set agar in the refrigerator or at room temperature.
